Here's some pictures of the outside of our new home. The house is a row home that runs perpendicular to the high speed train. Our particular street is really short, which we love. It's a sort-of-dead-end. There's a tiny little street along the back of the street that you can use to get out.
I just barely took these pictures this morning and it's been rainy and gross, so here's some rainy and gross pictures. :) Ours is the one on the left here:
And here's a view from almost the end of the block. There are two homes to the left of our home in the picture below. I'm not sure why there's differing heights in the homes, since all of our windows and ceilings are the same. I think the ones that are taller just have a lip at the top.
Some things we love about the exterior of our home: the sloped porch roof, the brick (duh), the white cinderblock-type blocks under the porch (as opposed to like a lattice covering), and there's hardly any grass to mow!! haha! We have one of those manual push mowers. Like, no gas or electricity. We thought about getting just a weed eater and calling it good, but then we'd have to get gas and blah blah blah. This saves us money, helps the environment, and gives us a workout! Albeit a very tiny one. :)
Here's the view from our porch. That awning above the train tracks is the top of the train station. Kevin's commute to work is 30 seconds by foot, then 10 minutes by train, then another 1 minute by foot. IT'S AWESOME. We're selling our second car. Anyone looking to buy??
My new door mat. I love it. And those are my awesome Robin Hood pants stuck into my rain boots. I went to Home Depot at 7:30 this morning dressed like this. Bed head and all. (In case you're wondering why, we needed an extension cord for our sump pump.)
The charm of this town... I love it! Mail delivered to our door. Our mail lady's name is Fran. She's so nice and knows everyone on our block! I was shocked the first time I met her. Everyone was saying hi and asking how things were going. I love this place!
Through the front door... I love our door! The little windows! The door knocker! I think I may want to paint the door sometime, and touch up the door knocker, and get a new handle and lock. But we love it!
Here's the view I forgot to take photos of before... The wall along the front of the house.
Here's a couple of the back"yard". Man that fence is looking mighty green in this rain!! YUCK! We have plans to redo the backyard this coming spring. We'd like to replace the fence, chop up and haul away the cement slab, put down brick pavers, line the fence with tall shrubs, add stringed outdoor lights above the whole thing, and add a grill and new table and chairs. (By the way, this is our dream. The goal is to get the fence and brick pavers done.) I just realized one of our neighbor's red paper lantern landed in our yard from the wind. And our gourd was blown over.
Here's a view of all the back yards looking from our door to the right. So everyone's yards kind of mesh together with fences in between. There's a tiny narrow sidewalk that goes along the back of everyone's yard out to the street. This is how we get our trash cans out to the curb. And check out the gray pole in the foreground. That's for our clothes line! It's hard to see in the picture above, but there's a pole in the back corner of the yard that has a clothes line in it. You run it to the gray pole in the corner by the door. How cute is that?
